Anne Marie Graham arrived in Melbourne as a young émigré from a Europe on the brink of war. Formative influences include the works of the Flemish painter Breughel and the dream like visions of medieval illuminated illustrations; in Australia one of her tutors was George Bell – now renowned as Australia’s leading early modernist teacher.
