Frank Hodgkinson AM (1919-2001) studied at the Royal Art Society, Sydney, under Sidney Long and the Dattilo Rubbo Atelier, under Dattilo Rubbo, then in London at the Central School of Art, under Bernard Meninsky and in Paris at the Academie de la Grande Chaumiere.
In 1958 he won the inaugural Helena Rubenstein Traveling Scholarship which took him back to Europe where his work stimulated the interest of modern Spanish painters. He exhibited extensively in Europe in the 1960’s including the Tate Gallery exhibition, ‘Colonial and Contemporary Art’ and ‘Contemporary Australian Painting’ at the Whitechapel Gallery.
